CBS Sport Teambuilding 2009

(Danish below)

On Friday the 20th of February most of the volunteers in CBS Sport met at Solbjerg Plads. No one knew what the day had to offer, besides that it had something to do with teambuilding. The information from the last year winners arranging the trip was almost non-existing, except a packing list and the place and time to meet.

The foyer in front of the library at Solbjerg Plads, was filled with rumors and guessing from the participants about what to expect. When the time showed 10.15 the volunteers were told to go to the Metro station, after a short presentation of one another, and received two 8-zones train tickets and the message that they had to be in a hut somewhere in the north of Zealand 1,5 hours later.

One of the tennis responsible, Jesper Iversen, thought that he should be named the tour-guide, because he was raised in the area where the hut was. None of the other volunteers had anything to say against this, which turned out to be a great idea… until they reached Nørreport Station and Mr. Tour-guide made all the volunteers take the wrong train – one that lead to Kalundborg.

When the volunteers finally found the right train, the trip was going to Kokkedal. Here the Tour-guide probably should have had a look at the map we were given, because after a short bustrip from Kokkedal Station and a 30 minutes stroll through the landscape of Nordsjælland, the Tour-guide had to come clean, and admit that he didn’t have the slightest idea where the hut was anyways. The situation wasn’t worse than, it was possible for us to find the lodge, with a little help from a few people dressed in green clothes.

Well set in the lodge, the volunteers were introduced to Lieutenant Krasnik from the Army’s officer’s Academy. Lieutenant Krasnik was in charge of the day’s activities assisted by a few of the organizers. The volunteers were then divided into three groups. A green jumpsuits and camouflage paint (the stuff that soldiers and ninjas use to make themselves invisible in the woods) was handed out and the teams were told to be outside the lodge after 20 minutes.

All green in their heads from excitement (or camouflage paint), the three teams arrived on the small patch in front of the lodge, where Lieutenant Krasnik went through the program for the day. After that the day went on with different exercises that were supposed to move boundaries of the volunteers both on a psychical and a mental level. Some of the exercises were psychical like for example tossing exercise hand grenades after running up and down a hill, while others were more demanding on the intellectual level for example trying to get water from one side of a creek to the other. The three teams were awarded point accordingly to how well they managed the tasks and how well they cooperated within the team.

After a couple of event full hours the three teams once again assembled before the lodge, thinking they were done for the day. Lieutenant Krasnik, however, had other plans. He’d arranged a nice little walk in the woods of the area that the teams could enjoy before they once again assembled in front of the lodge. From here on the teams had some time to shower and prepare for the night’s menu that offered Lasagne cooked by the organizers who weren’t participating in the exercises.

After dinner, the winning team was announced and for the reminder of the night, the volunteers enjoyed a few drinks while eagerly discussing if it was the right team winning the competition or not. Everyone agreed though that the trip had been a success, and the winning team was already thinking about the contents of next semester’s team building trip.

Thanks to the organizers and Lieutenant Krasnik for an awesome and inspiring trip!!

CBS Sport Teambuilding 2009
