CBS Sport Handball goes to Hobro
With funding from the Sports Pool CBS Sport Handball Ladies went to Hobro, Jutland for a self-arranged weekend training camp (Sep 16-18th 2016).
For the last couple of years CBS Handball Ladies’ Team(s) have participated in a small weekend tournament before the start of the new season. This year we decided to do things a bit differently. We set out to arrange a full weekend with practice and teambuilding events of different kinds and – as the cherry on top – we wanted to arrange mini-tournament with two local teams on Sunday.
Friday
We packed up four cars and hit the road in the afternoon. Spirits were high: We have a good group of ladies and we have lots of fun together. One of the aims with the weekend was to further increase the sense of unity and team spirit. Fortunately, people were really supportive of the idea of doing a training camp, which is visible from the fact that impressive 13 players joined for the entire weekend. After arrival at the Sports Center in Hobro we had a quick bite and then hit the court. Almost two hours of handball training marked the start of an intense weekend.
Saturday
We slept in a small gym at the Sports Center and woke up early for breakfast Saturday morning. Our second training session was scheduled at 10 AM. The amount of training hours we logged during the weekend allowed for practices that could focus a lot more on the tactics and strategies behind the play. This is something we have very limited time for in our normal practice schedule. The third training session was scheduled for 4 PM. In between we had lunch and hung out together. Some people went for a walk around the area, some took a nap, and some got the chance to have 1-1 conversations with the coaches about expectations for the new season. It is always nice when we have time to get some personal feedback. The afternoon training session began with a visit from Newton Fitness – a company that promotes an alternative way of injury preventing exercise and rehabilitation of shoulders. It involves wooden clubs that you swing around to move the shoulder joint in all directions while carrying some weight. The team has a long history of shoulder injuries so it was cool to get some new input on how to handle this. After the afternoon training session, we had dinner and then made our way to the indoor swimming pools. In the pools the coaches had planned two teambuilding exercises that was out of our usual comfort zone. It was both fun and challenging! To end the day we had a beer or two in the sauna – because why not J
Sunday
Sunday was big game day! We had arranged for two 3rd division teams (we play the qualification league which is one level lower than 3rd division) to come and play a small practice tournament. At 10 am we played against Aalborg HK. Aalborg HK has a really good team so we really had our work cut out for us with them. We lost the game 16-22 but managed to win the second half. Afterwards Aalborg HK and Randers KFUM met each other where Aalborg took the win 24-16. At 2 pm the last match began where we met Randers KFUM. We won 18-16(!) which was a great way to end an intense and fun weekend. We all agree that we feel more ready than ever to start the new season. Our opponents better look out! J
