Football Men 2 vs. FFV
CBS Sport Football Men 2 vs. FFV
Date: Friday the 8th of March
Time: 18:00
Venue: Jens Jessens Vej
You are only as good as your last performance. With that in mind CBS Sport Football Mens 2nd Team had expected a few supporters on the sideline, but no one showed up for this Friday night thriller. This time the visitors were FFV also known as Football For Friends a team from the top half of Series 5 for 1st teams and in the Winter Tournament they were in 2nd place before the match against CBS Sport.
Starting XI:
Goal: Teis
Defense: Jonas – Finn (C) – Sophus – Eirik
Defensive Midfielder: Holst
Midfield: Lasse Jessen 2 – Florian – Troels – Robert
Striker: Trieu
Sub: Magee, Jakob, Wasiem
Following last week’s strong defensive performance it was sad to see Magee was intended to be back in attack against FFV and therefore left on the bench in order to let Trieu follow up on his hattrick. This also meant a few changes amongst the back four. Jonas replaced Jan at right back, Sophus made his debut in central defense and Eirik returned to left back after missing the game against KFB. Holst was also back in his natural position as the defensive midfielder and as a slight surprise Lasse Jensen 2 was chosen for right wing instead of Wasi.
1st half
Finn lost the coin toss, but fortunately FFV decided to start attacking against the (strong!) wind. CBS Sport got off to a decent start. Lots of possession and patience were the main instructions from Coach Staalager.
However, after just ten minutes of play, and a less impressive display by CBS Sport, Troels put himself at the centre of attention. FFV had what seemed like their first attack. A cross from their left side ended in the middle of the penalty area where Troels was all alone, he took the ball down with the side of his body but unfortunately his arm was there as well. The referee was not in doubt – penalty for FFV. Their chosen one stepped confidently up to the ball and placed his shot to the right of Teis. Unfortunately for FFV, the CBS Sport goalkeeper once again saved his team with a great block with his right hand. The ball went back towards the shooter but Teis had quick reactions and kicked the ball to the side of the area from where it was cleared.
From this moment on CBS Sport seemed to be in control. Great possession football mixed with a few long balls created a number of chances, but the finishes lacked in quality. Midway through the first half the ball was played up on the left side. Lasse Jessen 2 took a run from right to left which created a huge gap on the right side. Trieu, who just received the ball outside area, saw Holst sprinting towards the area in the gap Lasse had left behind. Holst was cold as ice and placed the ball at the furthest post out of reach for the keeper – 1-0 for CBS Sport.
The first half continued with CBS Sport as the dominant team and FFV only got close on goal from a few free kicks that were picked up by Teis. The CBS Sport boys were most dangerous from the distance, but they did not come close until just before halftime. The FFV goalkeeper had shown weakness with his footwork and another bad clearance ended in the feet of Flo, who decided to pass the ball to Troels who was in a more central position. He took the shot, but the keeper managed to save it, even though he was running from the edge of the area, only to see Lasse follow up on the rebound and score for 2-0.
First half had come to an end and especially Sophus, Eirik and Robert put in strong performances. A few changes were made at halftime.
2nd half
Troels had to leave for the day, which sent Holst a bit further forward. Jonas switched to the middle and Lasse went to right back. Jakob came on for Robert on the left side, Wasiem on the right side and Magee replaced Trieu up front.
Second half continued with CBS Sport in control. FFV kept trying their luck with long balls, but most of the time the ball was picked up by the CBS Sport defense, and whenever they managed to record a shot on goal, it was never good enough to challenge Teis.
The final outcome of the match was decided in the middle of second half when the FFV keeper once again had a poor clearance. Flo got the ball and this time he did not hesitate or pass the ball on. A well placed shot from the distance just went in to the empty goal by the nearest upright.
However, both Finn and Flo had not got enough of the fines from last week. Both received a yellow card and will contribute a bit more to the Big Finebox Party.
The last big chance of the match came for Trieu after Jakob had sent a cross from the right side onto the crossbar. Trieu kicked the ball straight into the keeper, who had completely mistimed the cross from Jakob.
Another great win for CBS Sport, which saw them go straight into 2nd place on a better goal difference than FFV. A position that should be defended next week against B1973 Herlev who are yet to show up for a game.
Man of the Match was Sophus with 6 votes, runner-up was Teis with 4, Flo and Eirik got one each.
Well done by the Norwegians who also understood that football can be played along the ground.
